Last Xanga post

Hello folks! For the past few months I’ve enjoyed having all of my posts on Doobybrain.com replicate themselves on my Xanga page as well. It’s been fun knowing that everything I’m writing on Doobybrain.com is being read by people who know me from back in my active Xanga days.

With that said, please note that this will be my last Xanga cross-post from Doobybrain.com. From after this post on, going to Doobybrain’s Xanga will immediately lead you to Doobybrain.com. I’ve simply found this to be a much better option than doubling up my posts.

One good thing though is that if, for some reason or another, you can’t remember “doobybrain.com”, then going to “xanga.com/doobybrain” will bring you straight there (plus, maybe it’ll be easier for people to remember that way).

Thanks to Norman for the roundabout code fix for the redirection. Whee! So long Xanga!

Skate photos boring title

Just about every single night for the past 2 weeks, I’ve been going out skating or bike riding. I usually only do one of the two because I can’t do both at the same time. So on some days, I’ll ride my bike to somewhere really far — really fast — and on other days I’ll skateboard around my neighborhood. Simon sometimes comes along too. I know it’s been super cold lately, but it’s a nice way to warm up (even though I have to get cold first).

One night last week, when it was extremely cold (one of the coldest nights I think), I went skating and I didn’t wear my gloves because I had left them at my aunt’s place. Well, let’s just say that was a bad idea. My entire hand, front and back, were bright red. And they weren’t bright red from being really warm either. They were bright red and numb from being so cold. It got to the point where my hands actually started feeling “hot” again even though I knew they were freezing. I guess that’s somewhere at the beginning of what they call frost bite. Don’t worry though, my hands are just fine. And since that night, I’ve been going out with gloves. I can’t wait until it gets a bit warmer.

Anyway, I thought I’d abuse Flickr’s unlimited bandwidth…

I’ll get some photos of me on the bike too.

Not that anybody cares but me, but here is the world premiere for Justin Timberlake’s What Goes Around…Comes Around music video. It’s actually not that different from the director’s cut version I posted the other day.

I am an idiot. Well, sorta. I just accidentally won a Belkin Waverest gel mouse pad on eBay for less than $10. I mean, I want the thing, but I definitely didn’t need it. This is the second time in less than a month where I accidentally won something on eBay.

Here is the first thing I accidentally won (WTH, someone should have bid after me!):

So I finished reading American Born Chinese. It was funny to me mostly because I can relate to a lot of the events that take place in the book (even though some of it was totally messed up). You can read an excerpt from the book if you want to see if you’d fit the reader profile. Anyway, I liked the book and all of the drawings inside. It was a bit of a surprise to me when I first opened the book and realized that it wasn’t really a “book” but more of a “comic” or graphic novel. I think that’s why I finished the book so quickly — because it was written and presented in the form of a comic and comics are generally less words per page. I’ll admit, I felt a bit ripped off at first but the content filled that void quite nicely. :)

Oh my gosh, this looks like so much fun!

Dang, it must really say something (either about me or my school) when I find out about information on new buildings, like the one shown above, through outlets other than The New School. Anyway, this proposed building is supposed to be erected somewhere in the next 10 years, which, by then hopefully, I’ll have graduated from The New School and moved on with my life. But in case I don’t, I’ll be happy to know that the corner of 14th Street and 5th Avenue will be host to this wonderfully ugly monstrosity of a building. The New School fosters so many talented architects, and all they could draw up were the plans for this?! Blech. Yeah, I know, there must be lots of red tape and miscellaneous things I’m not taking into consideration when large projects like this are introduced, but still, c’mon. I guess this [plain-as-white-toast] edifice will go to support our already-ugly official school logo. Errrrrrrr…. -_-
Seriously, don’t go to art school. Instead, go to a university or college with an already established art department, that way you get the best of both worlds rather than the sucky side of one. Seriously. :)

Watching the second trailer for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie really made me think “oh no this is gonna suck”.

OHHH YEEEAAHHH. Bridge To Terabithia comes out next week!
I think I’ve posted about this before but I’ll do it again. I can’t believe they’re releasing a sequel to The Hills Have Eyes.

Check out the video above of the Airbus “Beluga”. It’s a giant airplane that transports other airplanes and their parts. And on that same site there are also semi-submersible ships! All these big things remind me of big trucks like the Terex Titan (there’s even a live Titan cam), or the Liebherr T 282 B, or the Catepillar 797B.
Speaking of big things though, I guess thinking about the big trucks reminds me about the massive Japanese G-CANS underground water project.

Yahoo! shows us what the minimum wages are worldwide (and how that amount relates to US$).

So the other day I had to show Funko that the word “fap” was actually not a very good term to shout out loud (LOL he didn’t know!). So how did I emphasize the fact? Well, I went to the best non-official source of English slang and lingo, the Urban Dictionary (they have great examples of word usage). The definition for ‘fap’ is the usual vulgar one that can be found throughout the site. On February 8th, the site’s “word of the day” was I’m not gay seat which is just funny as heck.

When I first heard news that Anna Nicole had passed away the other day, one of the first “news” sources I went to was her Wikipedia entry. I didn’t go to edit, I just wanted the most up-to-date information (speculation or not). I find that with most — actually, all — major current events are covered more in-depth by the community at large than by official news sources. Anyway, I don’t know why I wrote that.

Somebody ripped Justin Timberlake’s new music video (“mini-epic” as described by the single’s Wikipedia entry), What Goes Around…Comes Around from iTunes. It’s a director’s cut version so the final might be a bit different. Anyway, I guess this really is the ghetto world premiere (it’s still got the iTunes window bar and it’s a bit off sync). Yay Scarlett Johansson! This is an awesome song by the way.

Oh my gosh FINALLY! Google Maps has integrated their ‘hybrid’ view function to include street names even at the highest zoom level. Previously, the last two highest zoom levels were void of any street names whatsoever and that friggin’ annoyed the hell outta me. But thank goodness it’s where it should be now! :)
Also, if you go to the ‘maps’ view (the graphical one), you can now see 3D-ish outlines of the buildings and NYC MTA subway stations! I’m assuming, like all Google Maps updates, that this is only for major cities at the moment. Whee! This is great! I love map! I love lamp! I love cup!

Ladies and gentlemen! Mute Math is on tour again! They will be at the Gramercy Theater (this Gramercy Theater) in NYC on March 13, 2007! Buy tickets for the event here (or at the box office). Should I? Should I? I think the better question is, why wouldn’t I?

Oh wow. Here’s the full gallery of World Press Photo’s winner’s gallery 2007. Definitely a collection of some impressive work/photos.
On another note, when I first saw this West Bank struggle photo published in media outlets last year, I had a feeling right away that this would make it to some sort of “best of” or “most important photos of” gallery. And there it is, I was right.
And this swimming competition photo almost looks staged, but it’s not.
Hehe, this one is funny. :)
Ok, last one: This tents for homeless story is fascinating. Nice photos for a very nice idea.

Whooooaaaaa whooooaaaaaa

I am up early and doing a post. Why? Because I woke up at 4AM to read two readings that were due today in class. And after finishing the first one, I realized that I had no idea what I had just read. So I had to read it again. And after reading it again, I still managed to retain absolutely nothing or learn anything from the reading [note: this is for Global Issues in Design and Visuality]. By the way, visuality isn’t even a word and someone has yet to tell me what it means. This is my second class with the term ‘visuality’ in its title.

Anyway, so I’m up and giving up reading. I don’t know what I’m gonna do about this class because so far I’m really not understanding any of it. I know the gist of the class is supposed to be about design in modernity, but so far, I’m getting no sense of that in any of the lectures or recitations. Sigh. I’m blowing steam, I know (and getting nowhere). This class is kicking me hard in the rear. And with the upcoming presentation and project due next week, I know that I’ll be in for something incredibly rough. I don’t even want to crack open next week’s reading yet. I’m scared that I’ll be even more lost than I already am.

Remember when I said that How To Cheat At Everything was my kind of book? Well, I’ve changed my mind. I took a peek at its insides and it’s definitely a book I don’t want to read or buy. It was just a bit too boring to me. Yeah, definitely don’t like that.

One book that I always see that I do want to buy is Aftermath, the photo collection of Joel Meyerowitz from the aftermath of the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. Amazon.com sells the book for $43.50 while most other retail outlets have it at regular retail price — $75. So Amazon.com may be your best bet if you want to get the book too.

Ha! This is the alley next to my church.

Oh goodness. Now GM is in the hot seat with their Superbowl robot ad that depicts a robot on the brink of suicide because it isn’t perfect. Read the following:

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has called on General Motors to pull a TV spot in its “Obsessed with quality” campaign that depicts a GM factory robot that dreams it gets laid off and eventually kills itself.

In addition to pulling the ad from TV, the foundation has also asked GM to remove it from all digital platforms and restrict sites such as YouTube from posting the commercial.

Well, as of right now, YouTube still has it up online…so at least that much is good. Some people are offended too easily. That, or they read too deeply into some things.

Ok, so since I can’t keep my mind off of how screwed I am for this morning’s class (see top portion of this post), I am spending the remaining morning time updating. Great. Just great!
